What is Your Thing?
Seriously, what’s your thing? What is it that really drives you, or that drives you nuts? What is it that gets you up and going every day? Some people might translate this by saying what is it that constitutes you? What is your constitution?
I think it is helpful to deeply ponder this question in our lives. It will help us clarify what we really stand for, and what we stand against.
We stand at a critical juncture here in the US and around the world, where the leader of the free world is demonstrating alarming signs of tyrannical authoritarianism, bigotry, mean-spirited intolerance, deep-seated insecurity, emotional instability, lack of reality-based rational thinking plus clear signs of demagoguery, with dictator-like thoughts and behaviors… throwing temper tantrums, bullying, mocking and demeaning people and institutions he dislikes, all with clear and deep connections between government and the world of business and finance, which is the definition of Fascism. He continues to attempt to delegitimize the media, one of the first steps of a dictator. This, in conjunction with his tendency to pander and take a disturbingly soft stance to dictators like Vladimir Putin, it sure feels like he’s a despot being blackmailed. Then, when you add in the fact that he refuses to reveal details of his financial dealings around the world, with his broken promise of releasing his tax returns, and his obvious pattern of lying, deception and not dealing with realities other than his own, we start waking up en masse to the shocking and dangerous reality in which we find ourselves. Our President is a direct threat to the stability and security of our country and to the world at large. Our President is mentally and emotionally unfit, and is unable to carry out the duties of the Office of the President.
Make no mistake about it, history will judge us as either being before or against the forces of tyranny – between the forces of bigotry and hatred, fear and intolerance and between the forces of courtesy, decency, honesty, transparency, love and respect. Could it really be so black and white? When you have the right information and knowledge, yes it is very definitely black and white. When you don’t have all of the right information and knowledge, there is ignorance and confusion. So if you feel confused, you simply don’t have all of the right information and knowledge in which to fully understand the situation. If you stand fully and confidently for the forces of love, respect, dignity, honesty and openness, then it will help to remember that even when we’re singing to the choir, the choir still needs to practice. Come join the growing chorus of people standing for a sane and peaceful future.
It will help to recognize that it’s not about who we voted for or didn’t vote for – the values of common courtesy, respect and honesty transcend issues of being a Democrat or Republican, conservative or liberal, right or left… these are American values we’re talking about. And of course we Americans are not alone in these values, billions of other people around the world share these same values. Indeed, when we stop shouting, take a deep breath, close our eyes and search the quietness of our hearts, we are hit with the profound realization that we are the 99%. We are indeed unified and on the same page. We all share common ground and we are all much more common than we are different.
So what do we do? Do we shrink into ourselves because it’s all so overwhelming and we’re filled with such anger and uncertainty? Or do we relax, and expand outward… being expansive, inclusive and optimistic in our thoughts and actions?
We don’t need to give it more time to see what will happen if we don’t take action. We can take proactive action to remove the source of extreme danger to our country and to the world. We don’t even need to go through the impeachment process. All we need to do is look to our Constitution for answers. Specifically, Section 4 of the 25th Amendment outlines how the President can be replaced. For a clear and detailed introduction to this important part of our Constitution, watch this 10-minute video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gnnj_YjdJgs&t=447s
And if you don’t already have a copy of the US Constitution, do yourself and everyone around you a favor by obtaining your own copy. It’s turning out to be one of the most important documents in the 21st century.
To me, it sure feels a lot better knowing we’re doing our best, keeping a positive and optimistic attitude despite the incredible challenges that face us. For what will we tell our children? What will we tell our children and grandchildren when they ask us what we did and what side we were on? What are we telling our children now?
Sometimes taking sides is of critical importance, sometimes we need to take a stand for what is right and good and decent. Now is one of those critical times. Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country. And now is the time for all good men and women around the world to take a peaceful stand, to talk publicly about this important issue. To go back to the basics, to go back to our Constitution. We are indeed the ones the world has been waiting for. Now is the time to act in unity amidst our diversity. When the people lead, the leaders follow. Let’s do this thing!
